The Tuareg (Arabic: طوارق ) are a nomadic Berber people who live in the Sahara desert, and who have their own script, the Tifinagh. In ancient times, they were dedicated to looting villages, also controlling the desert routes.

The Tuareg people live in the central and western part of the Sahara and the north of the Sahel. For the Tuareg, the Sahara is not a desert, but several united that receive the name of Tinariwen "the deserts". Among the deserts of northwestern Africa, that of Tenere stands out.
