The maamul is one of the undisputed Arab desserts that you can find. They are exquisite to close a good evening or to enjoy at any time of the day with a cup of coffee by your side.

Although it differs slightly depending on the area, maamoul is characterized by the fact that it is always stuffed, and the typical filling is date paste, although there are also fig paste or dried fruit paste. The ones we present to you today are filled with date paste and sesame, a fine but suggestive mixture that you will love.

It's time for you to get to work.

Ingredients for the dough:

250 grams of butter at room temperature

1 glass of icing sugar/p>

2 egg yolks

4 grams of baking powder

1 large spoon of vanilla sugar/p>

flour (as necessary)

For the filling:

120 grams of date paste

2 large spoons of toasted sesame/p>

A few drops of orange blossom water

To decorate:

icing sugar/p>

Preparation:

First prepare the date paste. To do this, mix the date mass with sesame and orange blossom water. If the date dough is very hard, you can put it in the microwave beforehand with a little butter to soften it.

In a deep bowl, mix the butter, icing sugar, vanilla sugar and egg yolks well. Add the yeast and flour little by little until you obtain a homogeneous dough.

take portionRoll dough with your hands and make balls the size of a walnut. With your finger, make a hole in the center.

Take some date paste and put it inside that hole.

Then, put the cookie dough on a maamoul mold to give it that particular shape. So that the dough does not stick to the mold, put a piece of transparent food film on it.

Close the dough so that the filling is not visible and give it the desired shape.

When you have all the cookies done, put them in the oven at 200 degrees until they turn golden brown.

When they are done, sprinkle them with icing sugar.

ext datara:The maamouls have that characteristic shape thanks to molds that are specially used to make them. The traditional molds are carved from wood and the most modern ones are made of resistant plastic. You can get them in Arab product stores.
