Black Peppercorns - Selection of Spices from the East - Ruca

It is the incompletely ripe and dried fruit of the Piper nigrum; 3 to 6 mm berry, black in color and with a wrinkled surface. When split, it gives off an intense and spicy aroma. Although there are various origins, we currently market the one from Vietnam.

Description

Black peppercorns, whole, It is used in both savory and sweet dishes. We find it as part of a multitude of mixtures from various countries, such as curry or masala (India), shichimi toragashi (seven Japanese spices that replace the more expensive sechuán pepper), baharat (Gulf coast), zhoug (Yemen) and ras el hanout (Morocco). It also appears in the preparation of sauces, such as beamesa or white mustard. In desserts, it combines with fresh strawberries, chocolate and gingerbread, etc.
